I am amazed

I stumbled upon the most amazing hair stylist/ make up artist ever. She does lots of wedding hair and makeup, and the pictures on her blog are gorgeous as well. I can only wish to ever be as good as she is. Check it out:

DIY Floral Headband

As Megan's early birthday gift, I made her a floral headband yesterday. She wanted one with spikes, but since I could not obtain them in the time given, I left them out. Here's how it turned out:

Materials:

  • Plain / unribboned headband
  • Ribbon or whatever material you wish to wrap around the headband. In here, I used a cream crocheted fabric
  • Small artificial flowers -- just buy a bouquet of them and then pluck them off.
  • Glue gun
  • Thin ribbon to use as a tying thing (facultative <-- new vocab word meaning optional)
  • Scissors
The process was pretty straightforward:
  1. Glue on one end of the ribbon/ fabric you want your headband to be wrapped in.
  2. Glue on the flowers. You can have them more sparse (like mine) or more bountiful.
  3. Glue on the thin ribbon to the inside of the headband. Make sure to leave enough at the ends to be able to comfortably tie around your head.
My eyebrows in the picture on the right look almost
as sparse as the number on flowers on the headband..

Going to Peru in 2 days; probably won't be blogging much here. See ya'll later!

Aussie Aussome Volume Shampoo

Hello all! I know I haven't written a review in centuries...

I stripped myself of my Aussie virginity a few months ago, when I decided to try out this inexpensive and promising-looking bottle of Aussie's Aussome Volume Shampoo. From Aussie's website, it claims to be "infused with White Ginger, cleanses and helps boost hair that’s fallen flat."

I bought the 29.2 fl oz bottle from Walmart for less than $6.

PROS:

  • love the smell. It's like I dousing my hair in strawberries and apples.
  • gets your hair SQUEAKY clean. Literally.
  • it's cheap. obviously.
  • it gives some volume.
CONS:
  • Since the main purpose of this shampoo is to give volume, I don't think it does an adequate job at that. there is only a slight bit of noticeable volume, but it falls throughout the day and my hair returns to being flat. (but then again, I have extremely long hair, so maybe it just weighs itself down)
  • dries out the hair, unsuitable for people with dry scalps
Overall, I give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars! not too Aussome in my opinion, but for the price, it's pretty Possum. (get it? awesome-possum? hahahahah)

Pretty Side Chignon from Spring Fashion Week

Done by Thomas Dunkin and the Sebastian hair team at the Alice + Olivia show at Spring 2012 Fashion Week!

I suspect that the hair has just all been twisted and pinned together, though no pins are visible. What a work of art!

And may I mention that the model has a beautiful profile.... kinda looks like Taylor Swift!

Infiniti by Conair® You Style Multi-Functional Styling Iron Review

Comes in pink, light pink, black, and silver.

I'm just going to be upfront and blunt about this "multi-functional styling iron": I HATE IT.

website claims:
  • Multi-functional tool – curl or straighten
  • Nano Silver Tourmaline Ceramic technology
  • 1" ceramic-coated straightening plates
  • 30-second instant heat
  • High heat levels – 360°F/180°C
  • Uniform heat recovery – heat recovery system maintains optimum heat levels for perfect curls
  • Auto-off
  • 6-foot salon swivel cord
  • Limited two-year warranty
The biggest problem with this iron is that it's parallel plates in the middle (the part that acts as a flat iron) do not close properly. Like many other faulty flat irons I've used before, when the plates cannot completely clamp shut, it is impossible to straighten or curl your hair fully.

In addition, there are spaces in the corners of the flat iron where hair gets caught, and by the end of every use, I always find several strands of hair stuck in there. Snags on my hair too much! ):

After several uses of this iron, I have found that it only creates a curl where the hair immediately touches the curved plates, but it cannot curl the rest of the hair shaft. (I will be adding in a demonstration video soon) Therefore, this iron would be ideal for people with short hair. However, a normal flat iron with slightly curved edges could produce the same result, so I would rather just use a flat iron.

The only thing I like about this is that it styles my bangs really well, but that's because the curve of the outer plates are wide and thus creates only a slight curl that pushes my bangs back and out of my face, giving it a wind-blown effect. Other than that, this acts EXACTLY like a flat iron does, except not as good as any of my other flat irons...

1 out of 5 stars!

    -makes you look taller
    -can braid/curl/do whatever
    -lots of layers
    -easier to dye
    -straighter, less poofy

    Advantages for short hair

-keeps you cool during the summer
    -less greasy and dirty
-less maintenance (easier and faster showers)
-more cost-efficient (uses fewer products and faster showers = less water and electricity)

Jessica Lowndes at the UK Premiere of Pirates 4

Her hair looks super easy to do but looks lovely on her! Curl it using a one inch curling iron by NOT using the clamp; just wrap a half-inch section of hair around the entire barrel and hold for ten seconds, let go, and move on to another section of hair until all the hair is curled. Slightly twist and pin back the front 2 inches of hair, and WHA-LA!. I also like her dress and how it emphasizes her eyes! (: Very pirate-y. SPEAKING OF WHICH, I STILL GOTTA WATCH THIS MOVIE, Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides.

Ashley Greene's chic outfit and hair

At the Beverly Hills Louis Vuitton boutique, Ashley Greene rocked the label's leggings, cardigan and clutch with Jimmy Choo heels. (Credits to instyle.com)

I usually am not a fan of the tightly curled side pony tail, but this hair style is loose enough on top to make it look gorgeous on her. The scarf also adds a chic-ness to the hair and outfit. Love!

PS, does anyone else notice a resemblance to Anne Hathaway here?

    How I apply Hair Mask/Masque

I don't think I do anything out of the ordinary, but here is me applying my hair with Kronos PHYX Overnight Repair Masque.
So I looked the product up on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Kronos-Phyx-Overnight-Repair-Masque/dp/B001STAB1K/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top) and apparently it has TONS of bad reviews, so I am guessing it is not worth the money!

Some hair masques that I have heard to be awesome:

DIY Avocado Hair Mask! (just search it on Youtube! lots of tutorials)

I fell in love with Christian Siriano’s Strapless Green Dress

I was on my weekly scavenge of glamour.com when I clicked on a link that led me to photos of dresses from the recent New York Fashion Week. As soon as my eyes dawned upon the second dress, I knew it was love at first site. Take a look!:
It's just so lovely! Especially against the model's pale complexion and breezy waves. ^^

    Talking about my purple hair!

Herro! I recently re-dyed a small section of my hair. I always use the same hair dye, 'N Rage Color in Purple Plum. For the first few days, my hair is a vibrant shade of deep purple-blue. It soon fades to a standard purple, and then pinkish-purple. Lastly, it becomes a nasty gray-white, which means it's time to re-dye! I can re-dye my hair at least 3 times before having to re-bleach it.

    *please ignore the mess!

    Coolest Mixed Braid Ever

Wow... Just wow. I can see that it starts out as a normal French braid, with a fourth section of hair added every other time it's braided. Something unknown happens around the ear area, and at the bottom it's a very fishtail braid, but braided using very small sections at a time, which means it probably took a while to braid. A the bottom, it is either twisted or pinned in a way that it hides whatever is holding it, to create the illusion that it's staying by itself. Cool, eh?
